or camper you should check the background
of the vehicle to see if it is stolen.
You can search for a stolen vehicle here on the Australian Governments PPSR (Personal Property Securities register) using the vin number.

Your report will also tell you if there is money owed on the vehicle and if it has been written off in an accident.

There are no free methods of checking if a vehicle is stolen. The Australian Government charges a fee to search the PPSR database. Formerly known as a REVS check
If there is a stolen vehicle notification on your search certificate, you should contact the police force in the State or Territory noted on the form. You should use the reference number of the search certificate. There could be multiple stolen notifications shown. A stolen notification can be for a VIN, Registration Plate, Engine and/or Chassis.
